The Agentic Era: The Rise of Cloudflare
AI agents are moving beyond answering questions. They are beginning to browse, transact, and make purchases, creating new opportunities for companies like Cloudflare.
What is an AI agent?
An AI agent is an AI model with the ability to take concrete actions. To be precise, AI agents can execute tasks and perform many of the things a human can do on a computer: filling in text fields, submitting forms, answering questions, or replying to emails while understanding the full context, just as a human would.
They could indeed replace many of the jobs that exist today because they can essentially handle a wide range of tasks that currently require human interaction with a computer.
Why are they amazing?
AI agents are impressive not just because they can perform tasks for you, but because of how independently they can operate.
They can navigate websites, interact with web pages, access systems and files, and actually execute actions on your behalf. All you have to do is give them the necessary permissions and access.
For example, imagine you want to sign in to a website. You can give your AI agent your credentials, and it will go through the entire process, using its knowledge and capabilities to navigate the website and complete the task for you.
AI agents and the role of humans
The role of humans is continuously being reevaluated. What will we do in the future? Will there still be a place for us? What will our purpose be?
We define so much of ourselves through the work we do, including the work we perform on computers. But today, bots are already becoming capable of sending messages, responding to phone calls, and even holding conversations where you can barely notice the difference between them and a real human.
Which stocks could be interesting?
Looking at the emergence of agentic payments and AI agents, as I mentioned in my previous post, I believe one of the most interesting areas to watch is security, cybersecurity, and certification within the agentic payment ecosystem.
This is why I think Cloudflare is an interesting stock to follow. Cloudflare already operates in areas such as CAPTCHA, bot detection, and website security.
The most interesting stock in the Agentic Era right now
Cloudflare is an internet infrastructure and security company. One of its capabilities is detecting whether a visitor accessing a website is a human or a bot.
It could become increasingly important as the agentic era develops. Today, websites are primarily visited by humans. Tomorrow, a growing share of website traffic could come from AI agents gathering data, comparing services, and even making purchases on behalf of users.
This could fundamentally change how website security works.
Instead of simply detecting whether a visitor is a human or a bot through CAPTCHA, websites might need a new form of certification and verification.
For example, imagine a system that can verify whether a website is trustworthy and assess the identity, permissions, and reliability of an AI agent visiting it.
It could even assign reputation scores to agents, distinguishing between those simply crawling websites to collect data and those authorized to make purchases or execute transactions.
In this new environment, the question will no longer simply be whether a visitor is human or a bot. It will be whether the agent is legitimate, trustworthy, and authorized to act.
