Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

Account information: your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your name and profile photo, via Firebase Authentication.

Financial data you enter: expenses, income, categories, notes, budgets, and projects you create — stored in Firebase Firestore under your account.

Receipt images and AI data: if you use receipt scanning, the receipt text (extracted on your device) is sent to our AI provider to structure it into an expense entry. Spending summaries may also be sent to generate AI insights. Raw receipt images are not stored on our servers.

Usage analytics: anonymized product usage data (e.g. pages visited) via PostHog, to help us improve the Service.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to operate the Service: authenticate you, store and sync your ledger across web and iOS, generate AI-assisted receipt entries and spending insights, and process subscription payments.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

3. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in Firebase (Google Cloud), protected by account-level access rules — only you can read or write your own data.

AI processing (receipt structuring, spending insights) is performed by a third-party AI provider; only the minimum data needed (extracted text, aggregate spending numbers) is sent, never your full transaction history or account credentials.

4. Third-Party Services

We use Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Functions) for core app functionality, a third-party AI provider for receipt scanning and insights, RevenueCat/Apple/our payment provider for subscriptions, and PostHog for anonymized product analytics.

Each of these providers processes data under their own privacy policy and only for the purpose of providing their service to Apein.

5. Your Rights

You can access, edit, or delete your expenses, budgets, and projects at any time from within the app. You can request full account deletion by contacting us at the email associated with your account.

6. Cookies & Local Storage

Apein uses browser localStorage to remember non-sensitive preferences, such as your selected language. Firebase Authentication uses cookies for session management. No third-party advertising or tracking cookies are used.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
